Meet the Team
Alison Hankey, Editorial Director
Alison has been working in non-fiction publishing for more than 25 years. She began her career as an Editorial Assistant at Williams & Wilkins (now Wolters Kluwer), a medical publisher based in Baltimore, Maryland. While there, Alison progressed to roles of increasing responsibility, including Foreign Rights Manager and International Marketing Manager for Electronic Media. Between 2000 and 2008, Alison developed an expertise in content licensing at MediMedia where she launched www.netterimages.com, a medical image licensing business featuring the artwork of the great American surgeon Frank H. Netter. As Senior Acquisitions Editor at Jones & Bartlett Learning and Jossey-Bass, and Executive Editor at Wiley, Alison collaborated with authors of diverse backgrounds - physicians, business leaders and management experts, many of them global thought leaders in their fields. Prior to joining NB in 2016, she worked in the Channel Development division of Skillsoft, an eLearning pioneer. As the Editorial Director for NB, Alison commissions new works in the business genre with an emphasis on books and authors that offer new approaches to common problems and big ideas that will endure.
Alison lives in Southern New Hampshire with her husband Graham and their two Corgis, Max and Lucy.

Melissa Carl, Sales Manager
With over 25 years in the publishing world, Melissa has worked in a variety of roles, including bookselling/buying (B. Dalton, Waldenbooks, Independent) time as a wholesaler rep for indies (Koen Books) and in international sales (W.W. Norton).
Melissa joined Nicholas Brealey in 2014 after spending over a decade as an independent publisher sales rep in New England, selling major US trade and academic publishers including Farrar Straus and Giroux, Oxford University Press, Univ. of MN, Univ. of GA, PSU Press, SUNY, and Consortium Book Distributors among others.
MIchelle Morgan, Production Manager
Michelle manages the print and digital production of all Nicholas Brealey US titles. She works closely with authors during the editorial process and development of final pages for press. Michelle holds a master's degree in Publishing and Writing from Emerson College and an undergraduate degree in Communication from Curry College. Previously she worked for several years as a project manager at Pearson creating custom textbooks for colleges across the country.
Giuliana Caranante, Marketing and Publicity Manager
Giuliana handles all things marketing and PR for NB Publishing, including working with authors, securing press and media coverage, creating catalogues and book assets, building marketing material and collateral, and more. She is the newest member of the team, having started in June 2017. Prior to working at NB, Giuliana worked in marketing for the pharmaceutical industry. She got her Bachelor's Degree from Loyola University Maryland and her Master of Arts in Professional Communication from Clemson University, where she was the managing editor of an academic journal, rekindling her love for the world of books. At NB, Giuliana is able to combine her love of marketing and PR with her passion for publishing.
